Sheep wool has a variety of excellent properties that benefit our organic gardens. Our sheep wool fleece is made from 100% natural sheep wool from domestic sheep from controlled organic animal husbandry and is used as frost protection, weed control, slug protection, moisture retention, and organic slow-release fertilizer. Our organic sheep wool fleece is free of any additives or chemicals and is therefore a wonderful natural and versatile aid for the garden.
Our organic sheep wool fleece can be easily cut to the desired size with scissors, is very durable, and reusable.
Note: Our organic fleece is sold by weight and not by size. This means that when cutting by hand, we orient ourselves to the thickness of the piece, which is subject to natural variation for this natural product. So it may well be that some pieces are a bit thicker but smaller, and others are a bit thinner but larger. The size is therefore only an approximate guideline and should not be understood as a fixed size.
Frost protection:
Sheep wool naturally has optimal insulation properties and is breathable at the same time. Wrap our organic sheep wool fleece several times around the plant and/or the planting container to prevent the root ball from freezing through and keep the plant nice and warm and protected. Or wrap it around the trunks to protect against trunk cracking. This protection even works with sensitive high-stem cultures. Sliced into discs, our organic sheep wool fleece is also wonderfully suitable for covering potted plants.
Weed control:
Place our organic sheep wool fleece under the substrate, a gravel path, or bark mulch and prevent weed growth. Or place it as a mat directly on the bed and cut cross-shaped holes for the salad or vegetables. This process has several advantages: protection against weeds, warming the soil, which leads to faster plant growth, keeping slugs away, and being air and moisture permeable.
Slug protection:
Place a strip of fleece around the bed or plants and fix it in the desired position. For slugs, it is very uncomfortable to crawl over the fibrous material.
Slow-release fertilizer:
In addition to the advantages of our organic sheep wool fleece mentioned above, sheep wool is generally an excellent natural slow-release fertilizer. The fleece releases nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium into the soil, thus ensuring good soil.
